Everyday, thousands of Londoners pass through Paddington Station as a matter of fact, on their way to work, to home, or to catch a train to some holiday destination. Most have probably never bothered to stop an look at the architecture of this station. So when I got to Paddington, I searched a good half-hour before I found a good vantage point from which I could capture the kind of image I wanted.

In the midst of bustling Londoners, I set up my tripod and put my Wisner Technical on top. Then I realized I had no film cartridges ready to go, so I loaded 4×5 film cartridges crouching on the ground, while people stared at me and avoided tripping over the tripod legs. So there I was, sprawled out in the middle of the mezzanine, arms in the dark-cloth, loading 4×5 film as London whirled about me.

I made two images, one vertical, one horizontal. This is the successful image.
